| Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear it? It’s the sound of new beginnings. It’s the sound of Life.
L was surrounded from all sides. The Hymn of the Universe echoed nonstop through the valley of dense trees and across the great lake. No one took time to listen anymore to the sway of nature. Their was one still left in the world who still stopped and listen, who still felt the heartbeat of life and beauty all around her. That person was Eleanie Carr. She was lost to the sounds that coursed through her.
Eleanie did not attempt to filter out just one note from the hymn but allow all the sounds coalesce in harmony from the birds chirping high above to the critter crawlies in the shadows down below. It moved her in such a way, that she too joined in the hymn. It was soft, slow at first but rose and fell with the same intensity like waves crashing on a beach. The melody which she hummed was the same melody that her mom sang when she was just a little girl. It was one of the fewest and rarest of occasions, the thought of Eleanie's mother did not sour her mood, but uplifted it to cheeriest the smallest of occasions.
The breath of spring that was just passing on through caught her melody, taking it along with her as far is it could travel. Farther than what Eleanie would have attended it to go if she wasn't lost already to this reality and onto the next. She did not realize on occasion a merperson would break the surface of the water just to hear her sing before descending back into the murky waters below.
For a time, all was right in the world. She was at peace, sitting under a maple tree, her hands and bare feet skimming the surface of the lake. This is what made her happy. This was truly her.

| Some days the lure of the sunlight shining through the high windows of the library called to Jett with such remonstrance of his generally indoor life style that he gave in and fled the quiet of the castle for the more open grounds. Today was such a day: he had been sitting hunched over books for he knew not how long, his chest rising and falling in such even breaths that an onlooker may have thought him asleep if not for the occasional turn of a page. It was chance that the sun began to fall in the sky and the golden light of evening shimmered across his page, causing him to look up into the window. Yes, he could do with a stretch of his legs and a breath of fresh air.
A short time later he found himself wandering aimlessly across the fresh blanket of grass of the school's grounds. His mind was too occupied with one thing or another to fully take in the beauty of the glow of the evening around him, or hear the crickets and birds as they flew overhead and serenaded those who had more of an ear for such melody than Jett. In fact, his walk had not yet achieved its intended effect. He was still living in his head, in his studies and thoughts of the social environment he threw himself in so fervently, allowing him no respite from a constant buzz in his mind. His need to reign in his veela aura for the comfort of those around him was also tearing at edges of his mind; there was no relaxation for Jett unless he was sleeping.
His wanderings led him to the the tall reeds and covering trees that hid the edges of this section of the Black Lake, and there something finally caught his attention. It was a noise more melodic than the nature around him, one that rose and fell in a hum of song that somehow pierced the stress of his thoughts and made him realize he had walked so far without thinking. A rare kind of smile came over Jett then, one that was reserved for when he was alone and not trying to put on an act or impress. It had been so long since he had stopped and enjoyed nothing more than being aware of something so lovely, with no other motives, that he was loath to even breathe in fear of breaking the magic. He did, though, and even risked a few steps in the direction of the sound. He could place it as a woman's voice, but nothing more. His curiosity was revved, and so he continued, attempting to step lightly and stay in the shadows of the trees, until he reached a spot he could hear more easily and take a seat himself, leaning up against the trunk of a tree and allowing himself the peace of the moment, hoping whoever was out there would continue in their song and never notice his intrusion.

| In mid-hum L went silent. *crack* was all she needed to hear to catch her attention. She expected another twig to snap or leaves to rustle to suggest a large fox or a wolf passing on through but no sound came. She jumped to the worst conclusion, like she always does, thinking that someone was listening in. Her suspicions were usually correct. She open her eyes but only slightly, seeing as how the sun was baring down on her, enriching all the colors around her until they sparkled. Her eyes drifted to the left in the same direction she heard the sound. It was only when she withdrew her wand and made the decision to investigate this unwanted noise, when she heard rustling again this time in a bush.
“Come out,” Eleanie commanded and at that moment a chubby chipmunk with overly large cheeks ran out from the shrubbery and straight to her. Like any other girl who adored cute and fuzzy things, Eleanie let out a giggle as the chipmunk sniffed hesitantly at Eleanie’s direction. “Ah. How cute,” she said in the most un-Eleanie way, the cold bitchy way she usually speaks. It was more high pitch and squeaky like any normal girl. To catch the chipmunk’s attention she summoned an acorn with her wand. It flew straight into her outstretch hand, and she presented it a foot away from the cute Chipmunk. At first, it looked at the acorn quizzically, afraid it might disappear, but then after a moment or two it grab the acorn and took off back to its burrow, sending Eleanie into a fit of giggles. She returned to humming after that, with a smile that could put the sun to shame.
This was Eleanie as she once was, before she turned on the people that once mattered to her. Her light an airy innocence that drove her to appreciate the small things in life, the girl who wanted nothing more than to chase butterflies in a flowery meadow and who loved piggyback rides with her brother Kaden.
She let out a sigh. She did not know if she was still angry with Kaden or not. He didn’t do anything wrong, but that what made her so frustrated with him. He was perfect; too perfect in fact. How could anyone…how could she live up to his impossibly high standards? She couldn’t and that made it all the more aggravating. Now that thoughts of Kaden soured her mood, the peaceful dream world she created was now gone. Instead of trying to desperately gain it back but ultimately failing, she pulled out her tarot cards tucked safely in her bra. She mindlessly shuffled them, humming once again but this time it was much lower, less joyous than before.

| The hope of remaining undiscovered was taken from him when he heard the girl call out and Jett was nearly on his feet when he realized she was not speaking to him, but instead something he could not see from where he sat. He listened as she laughed, the sound cheery in the quiet lakeside. The voice was familiar to Jett, though he did not immediately place it. He was certain he knew the speaker, but was having the hardest time remembering which girl of the castle spoke so lightly and sweetly. The curiosity got the better of him some moments later, when the humming resumed, and Jett quietly stood up, intending to move just a few feet closer in order to see who was nearby.
The figure was immediately recognized by him as that of Eleanie and he let out a small sigh upon realization. He was not in the mood to deal with her today. Her mood swings and hostility towards him was draining at the best of times, and plain irritating at others. Jett knew if she was to spot him here some harsh words would pass her lips in his direction, no doubt about an intrusion of privacy and why was he watching her anyway? It wasn't as if he tried to run into Eleanie so often, they just seemed to be in the same places at the same times quite often. He doubted she would believe that, though, and instead think he was following her. Which of course he was not, though her challenging nature had intrigued him on occasion.
Yet, he had not known it was her from the start. He had assumed it was someone else, for he had never heard her speak in such a way, nor had he ever imagined her to be somewhere so peaceful and calm. He tilted his head for a better angle to see her, now thoroughly invested. There were of course things about Eleanie which he did not know, how silly would it be for him not to think that? This view of her was entirely new, and one that Jett felt the urge to intrude on, to learn more and attempt yet again to befriend her.
He was faced with a dilemma. To turn back, return to the castle and spend the rest of the evening with his nose in a book, was a safe bet. Time would be spent calmly, and quietly. Things wold get done, he would go to bed feeling accomplished if not relaxed. Less clear of an option was to remain here and speak out to Eleanie. He could not guess how she would act, exactly. Perhaps her mood was so serene at this moment that she would welcome his company. Yes; that was probably it.
With a few more steps, ones he did not try to hide, he emerged on the lake side some distance from Eleanie. Feigning a look of surprise, Jett gave a small wave in her direction. “I hope I am not intruding,” he spoke from his place by the edge of the trees, waiting for a cue that it was acceptable for him to join her.

| L shuffled and shuffled none stop for minutes on end. Her shuffling of the tarot cards was directly in tandem with the rise and fall of her humming. With one act came the other and vice versa. But abruptly her melody stopped and so did her hands as if under a Freeze frame charm. It was intuition that made her stop shuffling, something that the divination professor taught her, the only time you stop shuffling is only when you feel a change. A change in what, she did not clarify but L took it to heart. Sometimes she would spend minutes, maybe even hours shuffling her deck until she felt it, the gift rising from deep within and other times she would feel nothing, wasted hours spent on waiting for a struck of inspiration, a small but noticeable shift in her emotions or in her surroundings. In the end, she would give up.
She withheld a smile, but you could see the excitement in her eyes. She enjoyed divination. She knew it was not practical, or logical most times, especially if you did not achieve the gift of the inner eye, but that made it all the more fascinating. She tapped the top card three times with her wand and placed it in the center of her lap, seeing as how she was sitting partially in the lake and did not want to get her tarot cards wet or muddy. She tapped her wand again three times over her deck and place that to the north of the center card. L repeated that action three more times until, she had south, east and west card surrounding the first tarot card.
But before she could flip over any of the cards, the last person she wanted to see on the face of the earth...no, the universe, came bursting out of the trees like a bumbling idiot interrupting her serenity. Anger came naturally for L, like a crack of a whip or like a lightning strike. Her complexion which was snow white turn violent red, and she bit her lower lip ready for a slew of insults between any and all curses she could remember through her blind rage.
What stopped her from retaliating from the intrusion was not the veela’s bewitchment, seeing as how he was too far away from her to have any influence, but in fact it was the chirping of the birds. She closed her eyes and focused on that as hard as she could, holding onto it like a life line. All the fight left in her was gone, her anger subsided. She was so tired of fighting, so tired of being angry all the time. It was so exhausting. Eleanie let out a huge sigh, letting some of the tension go before opening her eyes up again. “What do you want?” Eleanie asked, not friendly nor with malice. This was an opportunity she rarely gave. Most people would overlook it, retort with malice or a quip but she knew Jett would get it, get that even though her words were unwelcoming, she did not outright told him to leave.

| Excuses and made up reasons flooded Jett's mind as answers to Eleanie's question, but instead of using one he sighed and ran his hand through his hair in defeat. “I don't know,” he said -the truth. “I thought a walk around the grounds would clear my mind but I seem to have been mistaken. Funny, I never seem to be right when it comes to these things.” The words left his mouth in a much more docile tone than he was accustomed to speaking to anyone with, one he reserved for very few occasions. He was tired; it was easier than mustering up the energy to put up a front as usual. Besides, Eleanie already did not think well of him – what harm could it do, now?
He walked nearer to Eleanie and took a seat on the ground by the lake, careful to keep away from the water but close enough to facilitate conversation. It really was a lovely area and he was silent a moment as he looked out across the water, spotting the occasional ripple caused by whatever lay with its depths. The air smelled fresh and warm, signs of a lazy spring evening wearing on. His eyes slipped closed for a breath as he inhaled, then let it out slowly. When he had become so focused as to forget sights and moments like this were important, too?
With a slight smile he looked over at Eleanie, hoping she wasn't disturbed by his sitting near her. He noticed the cards in her lap, set up in some sort of arrangement. Jett had never taken a Divination class, believing them to be a waste of time. He had only so much time to learn and there were much more important and relevant, not to mention sensible, things to learn about. Still, he was not about to insult Eleanie and her choices of pastimes. “What have you got there, El-” he stopped short of finishing her name, recalling how averse she was to it previously. “Sorry,” he said, genuinely not meaning to upset her. "I should just sit quietly and let you be, shouldn't I?"

| “Wow! You almost sound…Normal,” she said, layered with sarcasm. It was her defense mechanism, keeping everyone else on the defensive. She was so good at it too, that she did not realize that she was doing it half the time. But this time she noticed it. In fact, she felt his sincerity was genuine, not the posh, flirtation persona he swoon over all the girls at Hogwarts. It was casual, a bit tired, but friendly. She kind of liked it, even though she would never admit it to herself. She exhaled a deep breath, turning her direction back towards the lake. The light from the sun hit it just right, refracting until the top glass layer sparkled like diamonds. “That was kind of bitchy, right?” It was a rhetorical question, needing no further explanation or clarification. She too, sounded tired of fighting, even though she enjoyed sparing either with words, wands or her fist. Right now, she was too damn exhausted at that moment to continue on with this pissing match with Jett.
She did not even attempt to send Jett packing as he took a seat in the grass a good ten feet away from where Eleanie sat. She did not even give him the look. That look that could make even a basilisk think twice before attempting to petrify her. She just return to her five tarot cards placed in a particular order of her choosing. She picked up the northern card first and was about to flip it over, when once again Jett spoke. Her initial response to Jett was ‘Yea. Sit there, shut up and twiddle your thumbs lover boy and let me enjoy my day in peace.’ Her mouth open several times and each time she caught herself responding with a vicious retort, until finally she said, “They are tarot cards arrange in my own special way.”
This was probably the closest they ever got to having a civilize conversation. How long would it last only time would tell.

| Jett pondered over what she meant by calling him almost normal as he picked idly at the grass beneath him. Was it a compliment, to be normal? He had never considered himself to be too out of the ordinary; he was intelligent, and yes, of course he was different from others – different in a way that made him someone special – but to be normal, well, Jett had always imagined he was close enough. He did not want to be just like everyone else, though. He wanted to be more than that, and being plainly normal would never accomplish anything. Eleanie had no way of knowing that, though, and thus her off hand sarcasm did not hurt Jett as it most surely was meant to.
For once he did took his own advice and stayed quiet as Eleanie spoke again, more to herself than him. It was another moment, like the one had he inadvertently seen earlier while she was humming, that left Jett mystified at how little her knew of her. They had shared many encounters, yet this was the first time he had heard her use a voice that sounded so defeated and tired. He could hear in it the same tones he heard in his only moments before. Was it possible that she too spent so much energy putting up a front that it left her precious little time in which she could relax? If so the two of them had more in common than most of the other students Jett knew. His mind was on this subject as he continued to watch her arrange and turn the cards on her lap, listening as she told him what it was. Much as he suspected, it was some form of card reading that he did not know. Interested, if only because he imagined it might further the conversation, he moved a few feet closer to Eleanie in order to see more clearly what she was doing.
“How interesting. Is it accurate? Perhaps, if you would be willing and I promise to be a good listener and not interrupt, you would read off something for me?” Though he had no inclination for the sort of magic that the tarot cards represented, Jett could not deny they had a power behind them if used correctly, and it was possible Eleanie was proficient at reading them. He raised his eyes from the cards to look at her, trying his best to show his genuine interest rather than appearing fake. It was easier than ever before, as he had shed all his airs and graces when he had spoken to her from the edge of the trees earlier. He was now just Jett, wishing to continue a meeting with Eleanie that for once did not end in an argument.

| Even when Eleanie wasn’t looking right at Jett, she could still feel his presence. His eyes, which scan the horizon, always fell back onto her, making the back of her neck prickle. She turned her head slightly to see him in her peripherals, watching him pick at the grass, as if he had nothing better to do. The scariest thing about it is Eleanie did not mind at all at the moment; him being so close and all, and repeatedly tearing at the grass, which any other day would bug the shit out of her.
“Anyone could actually read tarot cards. There is no mystery behind it,” she said scoping up the pile on her lap before getting up, out of the water. “The cards never lie and I do not speculate their meaning, unless it is my own reading.” Most people come to fortune tellers to reinforce what they already know, making the Diviner embellish their readings to spread fear or hope for a brighter future. Eleanie wasn’t that type of person. She is just the messenger, nothing more, nothing less. “Would you like to try?” she said it without thinking. It had been a long while since anyone was interest in her, or her hobbies, that she forgot herself for a moment. She bit her lower lip, wanting to take it back, but again, she wasn’t the type of person to go back on her word either.
What was done was done. Before sitting down, now closer to Jett than ever before, she used her wand to dry herself off. A warm sensation passed through her body as her damp clothes went dry almost instantly. Her offer still stands, wither Jett would take it was up to him. Eleanie, on the other hand, started to shuffle the deck once more, staring up at Hogwarts while she did it.

| Eleanie's offer to try reading the cards himself came as a surprise. He had not even really hoped she would agree to read them for him, instead bracing himself for another harsh retort. Her offer, though, sounded more like a peace offering than anything else. Still, it was not a task he had imagined himself ever doing. He had no real interest in learning the craft of card reading, as again, he found its use trivial to him. Jett's focus was hard facts, things that could be proved and turned concrete. It was simpler that way, to know something was true and unchangeable. Subjects that left room for interpretation also left more room for mistakes, and mistakes were things that Jett could not let himself make.
Instead of answering right away he waited until she dried off and took a seat next to him. Her closeness was unusual, for she generally had shown an aversion to being even in the same room as him, and yet here she was voluntarily placing herself by him. It suddenly felt as if he was not interacting with Eleanie but someone else entirely, someone who did not hate him for one reason or another, and still someone who was not going to jelly inside because of his veela aura. It was a comfortable feeling.
His green eyes, reflecting the grass beneath him, watched Eleanie's hands as she shuffled the cards again and again. They moved fluidly through her fingers, following an invisible path from one hand to the other. He saw flashes of pictures blur by as they flipped, never enough to catch what they were, but only colors blending together. Eleanie wasn't watching what she was doing, but instead staring off to the castle, letting her muscle memory take care of the task. He watched a moment longer, enjoying the simple pleasure of listening to the cards ruffle together, before speaking. “I will try, but I am afraid I do not know much about this subject. I may need your help in showing me what to do” He confessed, something that he didn't like admitting. It was not often he needed someone else to show him how to do something; he would rather learn it on his own before attempting something new in the company of others.

| Stone towers spiraled to the heavens towering over everything in the vicinity. The mountains look like hills juxtaposed with Hogwarts, making them look insignificant and small. The sun peaked in between two towers bathed the castle in warm light but also shower the other half in shadow. The curves and arches of the castle made Hogwarts look grand. The gardens, fountains and cobble stone walkways accentuate the breathtaking beauty of Hogwarts. She loved this place more than she let on, more than she would admit even to herself.
It was only when Jett spoke with that rustic voice of his, not lathering it in pretenses of his veela magic, did L stop shuffling the deck. Her amber eyes, which dazzled in the sunlight, settle on Jett. She was still holding out, unable to read him, making her feel uneasy. Trust wasn't in her vocabulary, but just this once...maybe she could let her guard down and let some else see a part of her that other people never see. Would she or was the consequences of doing so be to high a price?
She decided to take a chance. One thing Eleanie was good at was taking a leap into the unknown, even if the world was screaming at her not to. "Sure," Eleanie said waiting for Jett to settle in, facing her before continuing. "I will show you my reading first, than we can try yours." For some tarot card readings were very personal but for Eleanie it was just to pass the time, a hobby of hers. It was inconsequential and plus, everyone in Divinations class saw her reading, a few even gave gruesome speculations of her fortunes as well, so she did not really care if Jett saw it as well.
"Once sorted, the person wanting their fortune foretold needs to place a personal item over the deck of cards, while they, themselves shuffle the deck a few times," she explained, pulling a strand of her hair away from her face. "For a wizard, it can be their wand." She picked up her wand once more, which sat lengthwise across her lap, ready at a moments notice, and she used her wand to shuffle the deck in midair a few times before each and every card landed perfectly in between both Jett and Eleanie. Now they were ready to Devine her future.
Just like before she placed five cards in her own special way. "The northern most card away from the diviner symbolizes Heaven, representing a strong quality and or characteristic. The Southern most card represents Hell. Which should be self explanatory. The three cards in the middle are past, present, and future selves."

| The breeze that was swaying the reeds in the lake nearby picked up and Jett could feel it ruffle his hair, causing him to reach up and pass his fingers through it, hoping to keep it from becoming too tangled. The silky thickness of it was warm from the sun, and he smiled at the feeling. It was in a veela's nature to be fond of their hair, where many of their magical properties manifest. It was stronger in full veelas, of course, but Jett still had cause to be attentive to the state of his dark hair. As his hand returned to its place on his folded knees he listened to Eleanie's voice drift across the grass between them.
Jett pondered over the use of a personal item. While he understood the theory behind such a need it still seemed rather superfluous to him. If the cards were being read by the person themselves, didn't the mere touch and thoughts of that person qualify as personal enough? Again, he was speculative of the effectiveness of this, or any, form of divination. Still he listened to Eleanie as she explained the meaning of the positions of cards, and how each new location symbolized a part of life. He watched as she used her wand as her personal item and pulled his out of his bag in preparation for his reading.
The light color of the Holly stood out amongst the dark green of the grass, the twisting handle of the wand worn and smooth from the years of Jett's warm palms grasping it. While a wizard's wand always shares a deep connection to its owner, Jett felt even more attached to his than he suspected others did. The core of his wand was not merely another ingredient to the magic but something close to Jett's heart; the veela hair acting as his wand core once belonged to his own grandmother. While he had only met her a handful of times her memory stood out as a shining light, despite her often aloof attitude towards her half-breed grandson. Jett felt his wand brought him closer to the culture that he wished had a bigger part in his life, that with that strand of hair he was closer to his family that wanted little to do with him.
Banishing the hurtful thoughts, Jett refocused his eyes from the cards in the grass to Eleanie's blue eyes, giving her his undivided attention. His persistent eye contact tended to leave many recipients blushing and glancing away, but with Eleanie he found he enjoyed the way she was able to stare back and not let it make her uncomfortable. “I believe I understand the principle. Please, continue.” He gave her an encouraging smile, waiting patiently until she felt ready to press on with her reading.

| Eleanie hand hovered over the cards. They laid perfectly align, waiting for her fortune to be foretold. Her hand did not know which one to choose as she jumped from one card to the next. It did not really matter which card she flipped over, but still the indecision linger until she flipped over the top most card.
Heaven- the Masquerade It was a simple black card with the drama masks in its center, tragedy and comedy. "It represents my inner nature. Duality and conflict on how I perceive the world around me verses how I put myself out into the world. To put it bluntly, like my peers have said, 'I am fake.'"
Her hands skimmed over past, present and future and went straight to the bottom card.
Hell- the Child She gave a hearty laugh. She couldn't help herself. The irony of the card and what it suppose to represent. It amused her. The face of the card had two children. One boy and one girl playing in the dirt. The sun rising behind them, burning brightly as the new day dawns. "The card means multiple things to different people. Innocents is the major one, but also sense of adventure as well seeing the kids playing and all. If you by my peers, I hate kids and would 'devour' there souls if I could." She gave another fake laugh as she went on analyzing her own divine fortune. "But for me, it represents honesty. Kids have no guile, no preconceive notions about the world or filter to stop them from speaking their mind. That is what I feel the kids represent to me at least. What I am bad at is being honest to myself and other people."
She flipped over another card, this time the past.
Past- the Fool The jester stood in the center of a banquet, while the on lookers pointed and laughed at him. Once again, she wasn't surprise she got this card. "It's either this card, the betrayal card or discord card that I get most often." She said it a matter of factly as if these card reading, which foretold a bleak outlook surrounding Eleanie, were no big deal. She did not go into details what in her past triggered getting such cards. She did not want to open that can of worms again.
Her fingers jump over the middle card and picked up the future card.
Future- the Crossroads This card was very ambiguous. It was a dirt road breaking off into two directions. It did not tell much but a big decision was in her future. She wouldn't speculate it any further, but she had a feeling, she knew once the decision was made she would never be able to go back.
She moved onto the last card still faced down. Instead of flipping it over like she did every other card, she picked it up so that only she could see. It surprised her. "Interesting," was all she said, just staring at the card.

| Jett studied Eleanie more than the cards she turned over as she did her reading. He watched the little changes in her eyes and face she she saw each card, and listened to her words when she spoke. As usual they told him little about who she actually was, but Jett was expecting no more. She was a private girl. That did not keep him from asking, though, what she got out of the cards once she had finished. “Did this tell you much? I do not mean to pry; I understand this can be quite personal. I only wonder, as you seem to put such stock in it, if the cards had given you the knowledge you are searching for.” When it was his turn, Jett let the wand in his hand hover over the deck for the slightest moment, before proceeding to shuffle the cards thoroughly. Jett put little stock into the so called magic of the cards, and the need for he to be the one to shuffle them. If the theory was the cards somehow could tell his personal life just from the mere touch of his hands on them, then he would indeed be impressed. But that hardly seemed likely. Jett had of course grown up in a world of magic and whimsy. He believed in charms and spells and all manner of wondrous beasts because they were a truth of the world. He had seen them with his own eyes, had learned to replicate the magics he had witnessed as a child. It was easy for him to put faith in because it was real and concrete. Such schools of magic such as divination and the art of tarot reading, well, those were things that could not be measured and broken down. Were they real? Maybe, but they were not reliable, and subject to much subjective interpretation. So it was with a grain of salt that Jett drew five cards from the deck and placed them in the same layout he had seen Eleanie do. He looked up into her eyes, his own reflecting the green of the grass beneath them. “The moment of truth approaches, no?” With a quick smile, he reached out his hand and flipped the first card over. What Eleanie had implied this card showed was heaven –a strong trait of his that perhaps overshadowed others. The image on the card he had turned over was a young boy, holding the symbol of a pentacle in his hand. Page of Pentacles it read on the bottom of the card. “This seems promising,” he said as he looked at the card closer. It felt somehow right in his hand as he placed it back onto the grass. The next card he turned didn't look quite so appealing. It was turned upside when he flipped it, and showed a man laying prone, swords plunged into his back and blood dripping into the ground under him. Ten of Swords, Jett read, and had a moment of discomfort as he imagined what it could mean, and how the gruesome image could connect to his past. Jett did not make a comment on the card and instead moved to the next one. This one was supposed to tell him something of his present situation, which was not something he really needed telling about. He was living it, after all. What could it be that he did not know about what was currently happening in his life? He had already committed to humoring Eleanie with the reading, though, so he flipped the card. Again it was reversed when he turned it. On it was a woman sitting with an open book in her lap and a cross around her neck. She reminded Jett vaguely of his mother, and he smiled to himself at her memory. The card revealed itself as the High Priestess. “Ah, this is a lovely card. The depictions on this deck are all so skillfully done.” The next card was to represent his future, and when he turned it over he there was an image of a winged man blowing into a trumpet with a group of naked onlookers below him. Judgment, it read. It was all rather too religious looking to Jett's tastes. He had not grown up with any particular religious belief, and he glad for it. It was another instance of life that did not have enough proof for him to put any faith into. That last card waited to be flipped. All Eleanie had said about it was that it was supposed to be Hell, and he assumed that like the Heaven spot, it would represent an aspect of himself that was not at all desirable. Although he put no stock in what would appear, Jett still hesitated when he reached for the card. He knew he had flaws – everyone did. But maybe his were somewhat less than the flaws of others. The last card was flipped, a look of casual interest on his face for show. A knight with a raised sword adorned the card, riding atop a charging horse. It didn't look so bad. Knight of Swords. That was the second card that featured swords he had picked. Done with the reading, Jett leaned back, letting his back rest on the soft grass. It felt cool and refreshing, and now that he was done turning silly cards over he felt as if he had nothing to do besides relax with the sun hitting his skin. “Does this tell you anything about me you didn't already know?” He asked Eleanie, wondering just what meaning she had taken from the cards he had drawn. She already had an opinion of him, and he had decided it wasn't worth trying to change anymore. He was just too tired. - Notes on card choices:
-Heaven:page of pentacles (ambitious, goal oriented in his studies to the exclusion of many other aspects of his life)
-past: reversed ten of swords (the beginning of an end to a cycle; reversed: holding back or deceiving yourself about the situation. For Jett – his family (other than mother and father) not wanting anything to do with him because he is only half veela – jett doesn't want to come to terms with it, eventually does as he got older)
-present: reversed high priestess (attempting to hide something about personality, needed to balance the sides of ones personality; some part of self is seeking to be revealed. For Jett – wanting to balance his veela self with non veela self, but still afraid to let the veela part be known)
-future: judgment (the end of an old way of life, to make room for a new direction that better suits who one truly is. Maturity, awakening of a higher sense of self. For Jett: realizing he's kind of a prick, and changing into a more grounded person who cares for things other than himself. Starting to be a better person)
-hell: knight of swords (a conflict of mental nature, expressing ideas too forcefully, focusing too much on intellectual pursuits and ignoring other aspects of life, aggressively pursuing parts of life with neglect of others. For Jett: too singularly focused on his own endeavors, needs to chill out and relax

| She closed her eyes for a few moments after shuffling the cards and handing them to Jett for his divine reading. The sun felt nice on her skin, like a blanket fresh out of the dryer. The day was warm and cozy, but still refreshing as the winds slightly picked up as the day went on by. "There are some truth behind divination, especially for those who have magical prowess such as you and I. But putting all your faith in the heart of the cards would be foolish and naive. And one thing is for certain, I am neither foolish or naive...Well not anymore." Her eyes were still closed. Pink and blue color lights floated behind her eyelids as if those two specs of colors were chasing each other.
Only when Jett was ready, did she do him the courteous of giving him her undivided attention. Curiouser and curiouser. Each card that Jett revealed seem to be an enigma all on its own. At times they seem to contradict with each other, but meld perfectly to one another at the same time, which seem to fit perfectly with Jett, even though the meaning behind the cards were elusive to her. As the divining came to a close, Jett asked the one thing Eleanie could not answer. "Like I said before, I do not speculate."
Her wand, which was idle in the grass, now was in her hand, summoning the cards back into her lap. Now that they were back in her possession, she could not help herself, but shuffle them once again like a deck of playing cards. "Have you played blackjack before?" she asked. Her hand seem to shuffle them faster and faster and with a simple turn of a phrase, "Audaces fortuna iuvat," her tarot cards shimmer into standard 52 card deck.
The smirk on her face could have not been mistaken, She had done this many times before. "It's a two face playing deck. Something I came up with long ago, to keep myself busy."
