Magic: Abilities: None Wand: Willow wood, Dragon Heart-string, Pliant, 12 inches long Patronous: Unicorn Specialty:: Charms, Transfiguration, Herbology, Potions Weakness: Astronomy, Arithmancy, Divinations, Defense Against the Dark Arts Characteristics:PERSONALITY: He's persistent in his... interests. He's got a positive work ethic, meaning when he's got a job, he gets it done, painful or not. This includes mountains of paperwork, and dealing with the more drastic patients at St. Mungo's- after all, the well being and safety of others is why he became a healer to begin with. And to him, life's no fun without a challenge. He's very passionate about what he cares about, and what he believes in. When he's not accidentally intimidating new co-workers with his intensity and passion for his work, he's a rather quiet and laid back man. Unless something particular captures his interest, he often sits in the background of life and watches people interact with each other.
LIKES: He's had a love for Quidditch and flying for as long as he can remember. Even though he knows he's not a brilliant Chaser, the nuances of Quidditch are fun to watch and strategize around. This love of Quidditch can be expanded to include all his passions: he enjoys talking to people about his work, Quidditch and interesting research around his work. While that's what he enjoys ranting about, Derek is equally eager to hear what others are passionate about - it's how he picked up his love of freshly brewed coffee. That and late night shifts.
DISLIKES: People who interfere with the progress of his patients and work. He cannot stand anything that may get in the way of saving a person's life and livelihood.
FEARS: Killing someone. It is most healers' nightmares but that does little to reduce the self-loathing Derek would feel for himself. One of the reasons that he had never been particularly good at Defense Against the Dark Arts, Jinxes or Hexes was due to this. It just felt wrong to destroy what would take the body so long to heal from.
HISTORY:
Growing up in Somerset with his family was a relatively mundane experience. Magic use for work was normal and he got his first broom at the age of 3 - not a proper broom, that was not until he was ten, but it was a decent enough toy. His mother (Tiffany), had met his father (Samuel) when they were both attending Hogwarts as Hufflepuffs. His mother worked at an apocathary in Diagon Alley while his father managed a Quidditch supplies company. While they were far from rich, their family was comfortably situated in a small house near the sea. When his Hogwarts letter arrived, he went with his mother to work to get his school supplies, particularly enjoying seeing where Tiffany worked. The smells of the apocathary were oddly soothing and it was fun to watch the potions bubbling.
As to be expected, he was sorted into Hufflepuff which Derek was perfectly happy with. His classmates were surprised that someone with the last name "Noble" was not a Slytherin, almost a snobbish last name as it was. But that misconception was soon dispelled in his first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson in which he had naively asked why people practiced Dark Magic, saying that hurting people was silly and a bit mean. He worked hard at all of his subjects of course (it would be terrible for his parent's money to go to waste) but his favorite classes were Potions, Herbology and Charms. Watching things grow was fascinating and being able to help the plants recover from diseases was very satisfying - much more important than blasting a chunk of rock into pieces. Even with these tendencies, it was not until his first visit to the Hospital Ward that he realized he wanted to be a Healer. In his third year, he had tried out as Chaser for Hufflepuff and had been recruited. After a particularly rough practice, the seeker had a rib or two from a bludger and Derek had helped her get the the wing. He stayed on to make sure she had settled in when the Nurse began her work. Watching the bruises vanish before his eyes and seeing the relief on the seeker's face when her ribs shifted back into place ignited his desire to be able to heal people as well. After that day, Derek strived to go above and beyond to learn what it would take to be a good healer: he would practically hunt down Professors to ask about controversial procedures, drink up medical texts in the library and volunteer himself as the Nurse's de facto assistant. This passion lead him to become more extroverted and actively seek people to speak to rather than only to sit back and speak when spoken to. He had a couple girlfriends in his time at Hogwarts and was lucky enough to part amicably from them when the time came but for the most part, his focus was in becoming qualified as a Healer. His dream job was to be a Healer at St Mungo's but that did not come without some effort. It was one of the top Wizarding hospitals in the world for a reason after all. His parents were very proud of him and were happy to support him however they could which was probably a contributing factor in his stellar exam results and accepted application to St Mungo's.
At St. Mungos he spent his years working up the chain of command and is now he's a well respected healer. He's living out his dream after all.
Other Characters: Alexandra Leoine.
