| "My dear," she said slipping in the hall of neatly rowed beds with homey touches to them. A lamp, pictures scattered the walls, comfortable blankets of every shape and size line the beds. "Follow me."
She walked walked down bed after bed, some behind blankets giving a couple so privacy, to the back of the room, where Jason popped out the opening of the blankets.
"All done, mame," he said dreamingly, his eyes twinkling at her.
"Thanks Justin. I think Bart Suspensor is quivering. May you please cheek on him?"
"Yes. Anything for you," he said scuttling around the two of them to back in front of the Ward.
Amelia held open the blanket to allow Misery in. "After you."

| Following after the woman, Misery did not look at the other patients - those, that is, that haven't been given full privacy - but offering them some of such privacy. She didn't know them or what was wrong with them, and had no desire to be found staring rudely.
Pausing a moment to glance at Jason as he passed them, Misery moved forward, behind the blankets. Her features softened at the scene before her, the man and the woman, but other than that she did not let her expression change much.

| inside the cozy little enclave, was two beds snuggle together. At the side of each bed had a nightstand, that had pictures covering every inch of the wood. In between the two beds was a small table, that held a pot for tea, three cups, and a picture. It was of Luke hanging upside down on the tallest tree in his back yard, waving at the camera. He was only eight in the photo.
"Please seat," she told Misery pushing the rocking chair in the corner of the small sectional toward the girl.
Amelia took a quick look around to see Jason fiddle with a pocket watch. His pocket watch with it was inscribed J. H. B. He was trying to get the watch open, bagging against the wall when biting it did not work.
Linda on the other hand was before Amelia left, hand finish her tea. Now the fine china she had was on her head, like a bonnet. Amelia stroll up to her friend. "Lindora? dear, it looks lovely on your head, but can I please have the cup back?" Amelia pointed to the cup, to make clear what she wanted. Linda shook her head, making the cup fly off her head, and shatter against the floor.
Amelia without making not even a face, stood up. With her wand the cup fixed itself and hovered back underneath the small table in the middle with the pot and the other cup in toe. "Sorry about that Misery. They get fussy and weary being stuck here all the time." Saying that, she got a sad look in her face, aging her looks by ten years.

| Sitting on the very edge of the chair, Misery took a moment to look at the two silently. She noticed the photos, the young Xander, but did not smile. Her eyes fixed on the Mr and Mrs, his parents, she watched them, trying not to show her worry.
"It is quite all right," she spoke quietly. One needed not apologise for such a thing. "Mr Brown, Mrs Brown... I am honoured to finally have met you." Misery knew her words probably meant little to the pair, if anything, but she felt the need to say them nonetheless. "Though I wish I had been able to learn more... I feel as if I have failed Xander as a friend, somehow."
Once she began speaking, she was unable to stop for a while. Whether they listened or not seemed to be irrelevant. All said in a quiet, soothing voice, she told them her name, her friendship with her Ravenclaw partner-in-crime, though leaving out some details of their greater pranks. She told them many things, none much too important, about Hogwarts and Xander, and bits of her role when there. Her beliefs for the future, that, given the right opportunity, Xander would grow into a wonderful man, and be given a well-deserved happy ending, even after everything he's had or will have to face. In the end, her voice breaking a bit, Misery stopped mid-sentence, glancing at Amelia carefully.
"I... came here today because..."

| Amelia stood off to the side, listening to her story, much was the same she heard from Luca, but she heard more of the bigger pranks, like teaming up with Peeves to tag every 1st year with a homing device, when the time came, cause the certain seekers, these toy things, to seek them out, and shoot exploding snaps at them.
She did not condone his behavior, but she said nothing of the sort as she watch the two. Jason throw the watch back into the draw in the night stand. he grabbed something else in the draw, pulling out. Amelia was hesitant on letting Jason play with a roll of metal wires, but did not stop him, when he used the wire as a whip, rangling cattle. Amelia's wand was at the ready.
Linda on the other hand was playing dominoes with her pictures on her nightstand. More than once Amelia had to do repairo, to one of her pictures because it feel on the floor, shattering the glass. Luckily around the bed was protected against glass, so Jason and Linda would not be harm from the glass breaking all the time.
When Linda got bored of the dominoes, she moved on to kicking her slippers off into the air, and trying to catch them. She never did. Most of the time the slippers would fall behind her. A few times it hit her head, and once she tried to catch it, and she rolled off the bed. She was okay, but Amelia took her slippers away from her.

| "That is, because..."
Once more she fell silent watching the two, once more questioning her choices and actions. Misery was unsure if this would even work, if she would be able to link her mind to theirs, and just try to see the exact problem at its core. The exact part that needed fixing, which may be probable through her meditation and Xander's potion.
Again, she glanced at Amelia, this time addressing the woman. "I cannot say for sure whether Xander would approve of me being here or not... or of what I wish to do." She explained to her the simple procedure of connecting her mind to theirs - not to intrude on personal memories locked far behind the curse, but to examine the lock itself. That way, Misery hoped to understand it better, perhaps find a better meditation if there still was time, or discover an ingredient that could be added to Xander's potion. Anything, as long as it meant something - she wanted to feel useful to him, and not just sit back, doing her own little research while waiting for him to finish the potion. She honestly wanted to help.

| Amelia casted a conjuring spell, a pillow formed catching the photos on the nightstand, Linda loved so much to play on, as she thought over what Misery had told her. "I have known Luke was creating this potion, ever since those Death Eaters did this horrific act, but he did not once mention this Meditation to me once. why is that?" But Amelia knew the answer before she even asked the questions. It was bad enough for Luke's hopes to soar, than be dash away if it does not work, let alone let others hopes do the same thing. He was trying to protect the people he cared about.
She walked over to the woman, setting on the edge of the seat. She crouch down beside her, getting down to her level. "You care deeply about Luca don't you?" she asked, knowing the answer already. "With Alexandra, she came out of friendship, but when you...I sorry." She looked away to the break in the fabric shielding them to the outside world. "It was not my place to say in this matter."
She got to her feet, brushing the non existing dirt off her clothes, as she took two paces back. "Because Luca trust you, I will permit it."

| Heat rushed to her cheeks, and Misery fought hard not to let a blush show on her pale features. No, Amelia misunderstood. The mere thought of it was quite-
"Of course. He is a friend I treasure, among few such others," she said quickly, then let the matter slip. "But... thank you. I shall begin, then."
Closing her eyes and taking a long breath, Misery let it out slowly, reaching out with her mind towards the notes playing in the air. Concentrating her thoughts on those of Mr and Mrs Brown, she soon found them and established a gentle connection, a bit taken aback at first just how... jumbled up their thoughts were. There was, she noted, a sequence of such thoughts, of both past memories and present thoughts. If one was to suggest a visualisation, Misery would describe great, multi-coloured orbs, inhibited by many strong chains so they could not break into a natural flow, and locked by a single lock each. Reaching out further along the minds, Misery took her time to examine the locks. What was she missing?

| Amelia stood in the corner watching. Both Jason, and Linda stopped what ever they were doing, and just sat their still as the air around them. So was more worried about that stillness, than the picture frames shattering against the floor, or Jason tantrum of the pocket watch not opening. She was worried.
~~~~
Most of their memories where a old cracked Mirror. When standing in front of it, you only see glimpses of yourself; an eye, a hand a string of curly hair, but never the whole form of the memory. And with time, the pieces chipped away, fell to the floor, and washed away with the flow of their own thoughts.
Other memories where chard so badly, that it was not recognizable anymore. As if someone use the incendio spell to burn wholes in the tapestry of memories.
As Misery dig deeper into the minds of Alexander's parents, she would stumble upon a sandy desert. A howling winds kicking up sand, that was not sand. Below her feet, was the reminisce of Linda's and Jason's of their deepest hopes, the love they had with each other and for Alexander, their deepest desires, and personal beliefs grounded up into a fine powder and left their in these desolate desert.
And all the while, incomplete object and people are popping up in their minds. People with no heads, or heads without faces. A bird without any wings, soured through the sky periodically, or a Jack in the box, without the box.
Their mind was a jigsaw puzzle, but without a template to restore them.
| There was no pattern to follow, yet Misery could trace the ever-changing pieces – though only just, she was able to catch glimpses of them, those that should have been connected, but were not. They appeared as different colours to her, and through a meditation, she believed she could make the colours brighter, easier to decipher. Some seemed to be disappearing, but Misery hoped that they were only being mixed in deeper on some other planes, all existent in the human brain. A couple were lost, few relevant for the final picture, but also – and this Misery noted with a heavy heart – important things like Xander’s birthday and parts of his childhood. He was still there, in their minds, loved as their child… but not complete.
Here and there, Misery saw glimpses of Amelia. Parts of her were missing, too, but it seemed likely they would recognize her, no matter the few holes in the memories. Once stumbling upon the desert, she could see all that and more, of what she had glimpsed before and of the thoughts hidden only there. Had the damage in itself not been as great, Misery would have attempted to restore even those lost memories. But the way it was, she had to concentrate on the current problem.
It took a while, but she managed to melt between their minds, and imagine a pair of hands for herself. Gently, so no disturbance should have been felt. Carefully, as she stretched the long, thin fingers of the ghostly hands, slowly reaching over to one piece of thought, glowing a pale yellow and bringing it closer to another such piece – a pale yellow, that seemed to match the first. For a moment, it looked as if the idea in itself worked – and Misery found herself watching a young Xander, hanging upside-down from a tree branch. Much like the photograph she had previously noticed on the night-stand beside Mrs Brown, only this time – she was watching the actual memory.
But, as expected, it lasted only a moment before shattering again. Was that it? It was a difficult task, and would take weeks, perhaps months to get everything in order. Not only that, but simply matching the pieces would not work. Misery needed a sort of a glue, that is – if Xander managed to create the potion, perhaps it would hold the pieces together. A slow, painful process of collecting, matching and numerous treatments, meditations, and unknown doses of Xander’s potion… if put all together, would it work?
She had seen enough, and took her time to gently break off the link between her mind and the minds of Xander’s parents. Opening her eyes slowly, Misery noticed she had been holding a breath, and now let it out, feeling a bit breathless. Would it work?
| Amelia after a few hours looked up to see the meditation over. Jason and Linda both looked mentally drain, so gentle glided over, helping them into bed, whispering that she will come back another day, and that she loved them both. She gentle snuggle them in, fixing their hair, as the two of them drifted to sleep.
Turning to Misery, she looked exhausted as well. Amelia did not know what she did in their minds, but it was a feet that no wizard ever did before. It was not surprising that she did not fall right than and their where she sat, dead asleep.
Amelia could not find the words on how thankful she was to Misery, helping her friends get better, being Luca's friend, and doing this for him. It was not enough to just say "Thank you," but that is the only words that came out.
| Managing only a weak smile, Misery stood, using the chair she had previously been sitting on as support. She cast her gaze over the pair, murmuring softly, "Do not thank me just yet. This even, is too much to hope for."
She had not done anything, really. Thinking up a treatment that may or may not work, Misery felt as if she was holding on to a thin rope, and just about to fall into a dark pit, that seemed to go on endlessly. Glancing back to Amelia, she gave a slow nod. "I must take my leave now. I-"
Whatever else she was bout to say got caught in her throat, and Misery shook her head slightly, steadying herself and moving behind the curtain, walking soundlessly over to the door and out.
| Amelia walked to the entrance of the enclave. She stood their watching Misery leave, as if she was Atlas carrying the world on her shoulder. It was in Misery's best interest to rest a bit before walking out, but Amelia understand well enough to not force her to stay, so she let her go. | |
| Alexander fidgeted in place on the figurative door step of the Janus Thickey Ward, where both his mother and father at this moment laid in bed doing god knows what. He has been standing in the same place for the last fifteen minutes, frozen like a statue, his arm raise about to knock to get the attention of the warden but he cannot bring himself to do so. Two years, he screamed in his head, severely conflicted. It has been two years since you saw them!
All Alexander did was shift his weight from his left foot to his right, uneasy creeping into his veins, and rooting itself in place. He felt like a horrible human being for not being there with them these last two years, but even worse that he still did not have the power to save them at all. He felt like he was disappointing them, dishonoring their memory, and that is why he was petrified to enter until someone stepped behind him and whisper ever so softly, "Aren't you going in child?"
Alexander jumped out of his skin as he pivot to see who it was. It was Alice, a kind, elderly woman, who also visited the Janus Thickey Ward to visit her twin sister, who sad to say, during a practice duel in the great hall of hogwarts got hit with several different spells. It has been forty some odd years ago, and she never recovered.
"Come on child," she said gripping his arm in that elderly vice grip of hers, as she walked up to the door, knocking three times. When Alexander tried to protest, she gave that glare a mother would give to a child, making Luke fall silent.
Justin answer the door with the crocked grin of his still making him look like he is fourteen and not twenty nine. His red hair and freckles did not help as he popped his head through the door. "Oh, Hi Mrs. Brice," he said opening up the door fully to allow her to enter. "And...Luca?" He was a bit surprised to see him.
"The name is Luke," Alexander corrected also stepping forth. He had no choice the iron grip on Alice was something fierce, almost cutting blood circulation off, taking him deep into the ward until they were just outside the fort of blankets.
"This child is here to see his parents. Go make them a pot of tea. Off you go. I will watch the ward," she said sternly pushing with her other free hand to Justin, who also got the same look as Luke did, shutting him up, and walking to the entrance of the ward.
Luke was about to enter the small entrance to the secretive hideaway that his parents hide behind, but Alice forced him back to look at her. In a flash she slapped him across the face. Alexander was speechless as he held his now sore cheek. He was in shock on what just happen, but even more so as Alice broke into a toothy smile. "Now you can go in child?" He wanted to stop her and demand for answers as she started walking away but his voice escaped him. All he just did was turn around sheepishly and enter the enclave.
| Both laid in their beds, however that was the only thing that they had in common. Their actions were quite the opposite. Linda had some molding clay, and she was making thousands of little circles, even though one of her age may have been using it to sculpt a house or a design that would later be rendered in another form. Jason was in the other bed, and unlike Linda, he had a pair of scissors and paper. It looked like he was making a snowflake, but when he pulled it apart, the paper shriveled into little pieces of nothing. Jason was quick to change his tactics, and grabbed his tray of food, cutting at his banana in random and nonuniform places. | |
| The blankets parted revealing a cozy living space with two snug beds right next to each other. The only thing that broke up the space was a nightstand full of photos. Once again there were new ones place among the old. Ones of Luke's friends. Misery and himself serving detention peeling flobberworm skin. One of him and Alexandra at the Ravenclaw table as Luke tried to stuff her with another pumpkin pastry, and her trying to shove him off the seat. Aimee just rolling her eyes, listening to her headphone. The last added photo was of him and Cazz snuggling close to each other on top of their snoozing three headed dog. He knew in an instant that it was Amelia's doing, his godmother, who visited once every other week, making his guilt sink deeper in spreading like a malignant tomour.
At that very moment he wanted to get up and leave. He felt sick to his stomach, and all those bad memories came rushing in at him all at once. His chest felt tight, and the room felt like it was closing in on him, but still he did not move because...
