| Just a bit earlier, Lacetta had received a letter from a very charming owl, who she had nearly forgotten. She had known just who the letter was from before even opening it, though still she was a bit surprised to have found it.
A few memories had hit her of their last encounter, where Lacetta had left in tears. She was a bit nervous to meet him, though she has felt that she couldn't refuse such a request. Reading the name over and over, Lacetta took a bit of time before she was able to reply to Sorrow.
Now it was the day and the hour that they were to meet. It had reached about noontime, and the weather outside was seemingly anything but the winter that she loved. There was no snow on the ground as she would have hopped, though still the cold winds blew.
Lacetta had adorned a simple shirt, warm underneath of her purple coat. Her jeans and boots had become a bit of a comfort for her, as she nearly wore them everyday, including this day. Though, seeing that the breeze was low, she hadn't worn a hat, as there would be no wind to bite at her ears, though she brought a scarf only to be safe.
It was now that she found herself waiting for Sorrow, as they had scheduled their meeting. Bristol had been just next to Gloucestershire, and Lacetta had felt a need to go for a long walk, so it was here in this cute town that she chose.
She waited, in a small and silent park near the water, for Sorrow to make his appearance as well.

Sorrow had almost expected that he would receive no reply at all. When it came, carried by Calm's gentle sway of wings, his heart had drummed against the cage of his chest as if it fought wildly to escape. Calm's soft hooting had soothed his nerves, and Sorrow was glad to find that Lacetta had obliged the proposition to choose a place where they could meet, if she so allowed.
In Bristol he was quick to find track of Lacetta's course, and he followed it by shadow-crossing again. He showed in the shadow beneath the trees, parasol in hand in case there be need for it. Despite the lack of snow however, clouds had gathered enough to shield him from the sun; and for that he was grateful. He took notion of Lacetta's gentle frame over by the water and approached her in long strides, still somehow managing to retain his grace.
“Good afternoon, Lacetta,” he breathed as he came to a stop in front of her. He found change in her features and immediately worried over the pain that freckled the blue and green of her eyes. “Thank you,” his throat must have dried at the sight of her, as every emotion threatened to bubble over and come spilling over his lips. “For coming to meet me, I- well. Thank you.” She was so close, after so long, and he wanted nothing more but to hold her in his arms; hold her until she heard every apology, for every moment he had tried not to think about her, and until she could feel every word that he had meant to say that day when she ran from him in tears.
Instead he scolded himself for thinking that in so long her feelings had not changed. It was a selfish thought, and among ones Sorrow found he often had with Lacetta in mind. A year or so ago he had promised himself to make no more of it; he let Lacetta live her own life and had finally, after endlessly trying to mend the tear between himself and Vanity, chosen to forget about him too. But he missed her. Oh how he missed her. If he had put a word down for every time he wished to contact her, he would have filled pages of a book. The best he could do was try and be her friend again; if such a thing were possible, he would ask for no more.

| Hearing the all too familiar voice, Lacetta looked up from her seat on the bench, finding herself gazing into Sorrow's deep eyes. A smile grazed her lips as he thanked her, Lacetta now standing so that she were at the same level as Sorrow, finding it disrespectful of her to sit when he was standing.
"Of course, I would have never said no!"
She had been all smiles, though she had felt quite the bit of an odd pang in her heart. She had feeling from all sorts of places clashing inside of her. Some of sadness, from their last meeting, some of blush from a lingering love, and others of conflict that she could not place.
It was odd to her, to find herself so close to Sorrow after so many years. She could see his face just the same, though she was sure that there was something different about it. It's placement though was lost to her, as she couldn't quite touch a thing. Perhaps it was more of the inside, then the outside that had changed?
She hadn't known what to say any longer, and instead looked down at her feet, playing with her shoes against the soft mud that was below her feet. The dirt had never minded her, as clothes could always be washed, though even now she could recall quite the few muggles who'd stare at Lacetta as she expressed some of her habits. She hadn't minded the staring for quite some time, though she began to feel it more and more, and it was the whispers that had bothered her.
Never had she realized that it was a newspaper, of muggle origin, that had been their attraction to her. She had been one of the few to stick around, after the brutal fight near her home. Although she had never admitted to being present, she still had her name mentioned once or twice, as she was always sure to say how dearly she missed Mr. Parcell and what lovely of a woman she was.
At the thought, Lacetta grabbed her arm, not with a look of pain to give any bit away, but out of habit for what was there. Her wound was never quite healed, though it was close to being only a scar on her arm. It was at that moment that she looked up at Sorrow, doing what she could to think of words to speak.
"Have you been well?" | |

He watched her as she stood and smiled at him, quite a bit like how she used to smile at him, but then of course this time with a sense of sadness that he could so easily tell off people. It caused a hurt in him that she, of all people, had had to feel pain again. It was a moment after she had dropped her head, studying the ground with some interest, that Sorrow reached out and placed a pale hand on her cheek, gently guiding her head up again.
“Look at you,” a smile had placed his lips and there was no denying the fondness in his voice as he spoke. “Just as I remember and yet so changed.” He had loved a girl. In some ways Lacetta remained that girl; and perhaps he would never forget how he felt for her. But his life had entered a woman. She was no fantasy, like Lacetta had been. She was flame. He realized it in that moment, as something childish lingered in Lacetta through all the shadow that wanted to possess her. She could remain like this, always, able to heal herself with just her mind.
Retreating his hand, Sorrow saw he had interrupted a thought. Her own fingers seemed to cling to the fabric of a sleeve that kept her other arm warm. He wondered what secret lay beneath it, but made no notion to find out. If it was for him to know, he would, and by Lacetta’s lips as she spoke of it.
“Yes,” he spoke instead in response to her question. “And you?” Casting a glance towards the bench she had previously been sitting on. “Shall we sit down?”

| Washed over with a smooth pink, Lacetta couldn't help but blush at the feeling of Sorrow's cold hand, rested on her cheek and pulling her attention onto him. She had not felt his touch in so long, that it was strange and she had little clue how to react.
Although, it had been quite a long while since anybody had touched her. She had not shaken a hand, she had not healed any one person. Lacetta had spent her months, at home, or so what she now called home. The last person that touched her…
It was a moment she had wished only to move on from, for the pain was not something that she had wanted to think on. Though, she had now been faced with a bit of pain as well, so perhaps Lacetta was simply some sort of magnet, attracting what so many would have wished to not.
Though pain could only ever derive from a love, could it not? She was a bit unsure of herself, lost in the thoughts, until the voice had pulled her back with a gentle hand. It had guided her toward the light once more.
"As are you!"
Lacetta smiled now, much more purely then she had earlier. She'd much like to think on the good times, not the bad. It was the good times that would forever live, and that would keep her company when her body grew old and tired.
She was glad to hear that Sorrow had been well, and in response to his question she nodded her head, her blond curls nodded with her, taking a seat before answering Sorrow's question. Although it hadn't been all true, for the most part she had been well.
"I've been quite fine as well!"

“Tell me?” he asked, taking his place beside her on the bench. “I would like to hear of the gentler days, and then of those that were less than so. If I may.” Sorrow’s fingers found way to the spot on Lacetta’s arm that she had touched earlier. He traced them gently over the sleeve, feeling the hard fabric but little else. However he understood that there was a patch of pain there, one that he may not be able to yet uncover.
There was a time when his mind linked to hers easily; cause of a past memory charm and careful patching of lost memories. Sorrow would speak to Lacetta without a sound less the one in their minds. But as time progressed and their relationship did not, even those quiet words and images faded into an empty space that brought no more warmth at all. Soon he was afraid to call her a friend, for no friend should allow to stay out of touch for so long. It was a mistake Sorrow so often repeated that he could no more find words to express his apologies. He felt himself a shadow in their minds, one that should have disappeared with time, but seemed so selfish in its desire to linger.
There was one thing worse than that however; and it was his own awareness of his actions. Sorrow was no man, though he had tried to follow the moral standings of one such. In the end he did not mind himself. He let emotion lead him more often than he would care to admit. And in spite to all his act and grace, he had more faults than others chose to see.
Humans were such simple creatures. So perfect in the way of being imperfect. They were truly beings of feeling and emotion, little souls to collect and treasure. Sorrow had taken hearts and minds, and left the core of his name in them. With every attempt to fix something, he had probably made it worse. He found his reflection in the shine of Lacetta’s eyes, and for the first time in years, he knew himself. He was not there to make it better; it was never his role to interrupt the natural flow of things. He was not there to force his presence into the great mixture. Sorrow was a lonely companion; a silent emotion that kept watch from the shadow. And he was there to take the sadness away with him. As much as pressured the heart as he could. As much as his name allowed him.

| Unconsciously, her arm swung back as Sorrow had touched her arm, though she hadn't realized until after doing so. She blushed from embarrassment, having not meant the implied.
There was so very little that she could think to tell him. She had been so simple, that she couldn't find a thing that he would find of interest. Or, nothing that would have been a good story to tell. There was one, a bad story though, and they were best left unsaid.
"There's so little to tell, though! Luke had offered me his home, as he plans to travel, though I simply cannot take it. So instead I feel as though I'm watching it, for him and for his return. Though, I can't say much else has occured. I simply read and sleep, and eat too!"
She smiled at bit at the simplicity of her life. It wasn't a bad one, she certainly could say that. Though it was a quiet one, a dull one that some may not have very much liked. She was quite alright with it, she had no complaints after all.
"And what is it that you have been doing with yourself?"
Lacetta had now found herself looking at Sorrow in his eyes, at first blankly, before a warming smile crossed her face and her eyes showed honest wrinkles from the happiness of it.
