(7/22) OWL&NEWT Bubble-Head Charm: Class 2

(Claudia and Jett, please post if you plan to continue on in this class, I may or may not be doing partners so I'll need to know if I should pair you up for not!)

"Yes, that is correct, 10 House Points to both Slytherin and Gryffindor. But, Eleanie, please refrain from putting yourself and others in the negative situations, it's becoming a bit of a concern."

Eirina was trying to be nice to Eleanie, or trying to sound nice at least, however she came off as pretty sassy. There was nothing that Eirina could have punished Eleanie for in that statement, only warn her of the uneasiness that she was causing many students with the way she phrased, well, just about everything. It would have concerned Eirina more, if she wasn't as certain as she was that Eleanie simply enjoyed the rise that she got out of people. And she was certainly getting it now.

"Everyone, we'll be moving on to an interactive activity before you start your homework. Please, everyone stand up. Wands at the ready."

She waited for everyone to be standing so that she could see all of their faces, moving a few students around and using her wand to push all of the desks do that they were out of the way and up against the wall. She looked out into the crowd, scanning each and everyone one of her students.

"Now, go ahead and practice, just one, the Bubble-Head Charm."

Jett already knew a lot of what the headmistress was saying. Not just about the spells itself but about the way magic worked outside of the classroom. It would take a rather dim student to not figure out that the two situations were very different. It would be nice to start practicing in an environment more like what they would come across in real life, but he supposed many students could not be trusted with their skill level yet, or their maturity. It was an thought that annoyed Jett. Why couldn't everyone just understand the basics and get on with their education, like he had? There was no excuse for falling behind or not grasping the simple fact that magic was different in every new situation you faced.

Hearing Eleanie's once again rude answer Jett turned to look back at her. He had avoided doing so since their encounter in the north wing. He let his eyes met hers with a look of disappointment. Surely she could behave for one lesson?

As Headmistress Naer announced the practical part of the class Jett quickly stood up. He was eager to try out the bubble head charm, knowing it would come in use in his future. His light colored wand was in his hand, gripped lightly and confidently. Since the charm was nonverbal he began to tune out the classroom noise around him until he was able to focus only on his inner thoughts. He imagined the spell in his mind, how it worked and how it looked, taking notice of the details needed. With his goal firmly implanted, he motioned his wand in the required flourishes and performed the spell.

A small bubble formed around his head, very close to his hair and skin. It was not just around his mouth and nose as he had hoped. Jett was disappointed he had not managed to get it just right. It was only his first attempt but that did not change his feelings. He would need to practice more to perfect the charm.

Timothy hurriedly stood and grabbed his wand from his pocket. He closed his eyes, focusing on creating a bubble of clean air around his head. He imagined a large soap bubble around his head, full of clean fresh air. He waved his wand, concentrating hard.

Claudia was glad that they were finally going to preform a charm. She had been waiting for a chance to use her wand in class. She stood up as the desks were pushed up against the wall. She took he wand out of her boot. Her wand always felt right in her hand. It was like it became a part of her. She cleared her mind of anything but the charm and blocked out all the noise in the room. She breathed out then with a flick of her wand a bubble of air surrounded her head. She knew if she had a little more practice she would be able to perfect it but all in due time.

Fan practically jumped out of her seat as Headmistress Naer told them to rise in order to perform the spell. Fan, who probably should have been nervous, was happy and excited, no matter how bad she was at Charms. She had faith and trust in her wand to help her out, and she looked around at all of the other kids, putting up charms and creating bubbles really closely to their heads, Fan perkily casted her own spell. Immediately a giant bubble, much bigger than any of the other kids, just seemed to pop itself on her head, instead of growing nicely, and she was so shocked that Fan ended up falling over onto the floor, shocked for only a moment before she laughed.

Slowly and silently, Ella pushed her chair out and raised herself from her spotted seat into the air. She didn't look around at the other students, but instead closed her eyes and took a deep breath, her peach lips glistening into a very subtle smile. Her wand was laying in her hands, and her fingers curved softly around the wood, where she could feel every crevice against her skin. She could hear nothing but her own thoughts in the peace of her mind, casting the smell like music in her mind. Even now, with the bubble slowly bubbling and tickling her skin, she kept her eyes closed. Charms had been Ella's best subject, as well as her favorite. She could feel her control on the bubble simply through an image in her mind. First the mouth, then the nose, creeping its way around her eyes and thinly skimming the roots of her hair. Only now did Ella open her eyes, the smile remaining on her face.

Timothy opened his eyes to find he had cast it pretty well, it was only about 5cm from his head at the farthest bit. He wanted to try again, but wasn't sure if he should just try, or if he had to release the charm.
"Professor, how do we release the charm?" He asked, ignoring the laughing girl on the ground.

Eirina started walking around the classroom now, going up to the students who were unable to make the bubble to help them out, individually. If they were to move on in the class with an activity, she had to make sure that they at least understood the spell, whether they could make a good bubble or not. The first person that she approached was Eleanie.

"Eleanie, just focus a bit more on the spell itself and the formation of the bubble. Everything else will come, I'm sure."

They were all quick little tid bits, but the students would need to hear them. She continued to walk on to her next student, talking to all of those who she was giving advice to. What she was saying apllied to everyone after she gave them their advice, because she needed to be sure that they could do the basics. "Now try again."

Eirina really didn't stop for Fan. She had the bubble just fine, she just popped it with her own enthusiasm, so there wasn't much to tell her. And then same went for Kaden. Eirina was certain that he could hold the spell just fine, but she watched him and could see on his face that there were other things on his mind.

"Fan, just don't fall over, and Kaden, just remain focused. That's all, now try again."

At this point Eirina was making her way to the front of the room. She stood tall as she looked over everyone's charm, nodding her head in approval to those who maintained their charm and to those who had to remake their charm. As Eirina was please, she looked out into the crowd, answering the question that Timothy had asked.

"+5 to Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw for well completed charms. And a good question, Timothy. Now, everyone there are two ways to get rid of the spell. You can either lose complete focus, or you can calmly try to make the spell retreat. You may have more luck scaring one another though and losing focus, but go on and give it a go."

She waited, looking out into the crowd for everyone to get rid of their charm.

Not wanting to stoop to being startled to release the charm, Timothy again focused, imagining the bubble around his head dispersing, disappearing, becoming thinner than parchment until it ceased to exist. It took nearly a minute but it worked. He smiled in triumph for a second before schooling his features.

Listening to Headmistress Naer's words, Jett pulled his attention back to his spell, now intent on receding the bubble of air. He was finding it more difficult to control than he had first imagined; the bubble was sticking firmly in place. Maybe he had focused too hard to get it there and now it would take even more concentration to dismantle it.

Jett looked around to see how the others were faring. A few were getting it on their own, such as Timothy. As his eyes reached Ella and her perfect expression of concentration Jett's focus on his spell was completely broken. The pocket of air popped and was gone. So it was easier to lose focus than to remove the charm oneself. That didn't seem advantageous to Jett, but more of a complication.

Claudia thought about just trying to reverse the spell but then she thought of something that made her laugh. Suddenly her the bubble around her head popped. She stopped laughing then soon after she caught up laughing again. She was really enjoying the charms class today. She hoped t hey would do more fun stuff like this again.

Timothy frowned. Apparently it was rather easy to make the charm disappear, that could be bad when you actually needed it to hold... If you were swimming underwater and a kelpie startled you or something...

"Well done, class! Now..."

Eirina was about to move on to the last activity, and it was a quick one. It was only a second before the room looked full of water, and Eirina had her own bubble-head charm on, hers covering only her mouth and nose and under the chin.

"Put your charms up, quick!"

She called out to them, trying to grab their attention from the initial shock, but she needed them to learn how to work the spell in desperation, and what better of a time to cause it then when she was able to supervise, at least? It was better that way then to just set them free into a world where they'd be hit with a situation, and probably killed by it. Now, well now maybe they'd stand a bit better of a chacne.

Claudia was surprised by the quick action. It was hard to keep concentration and focus when it happened so suddenly. She thought she wouldn't be able to form it  but she took a slow deep breath and slowly formed the bubble around her head. She found it rather hard to keep the concentration but she tried her hardest.

Timothy took a step back as the room suddenly filled with with water. He held his wand tight, closing his eyes, holding his breath, he again imagined the soap bubble full of air around his head. He imagined the water rising over him, but unable to breach through the charm. He didn't want to open his eyes to check, but he had to. He held the image of his head protected by the charm, the water lapping at the transparent shield. He cracked an eye open, slightly impressed to find he'd done it.
He lost focus and the charm collapsed, quickly shutting his eyes again, imagining the charm protecting him, he needed to breathe but first he had to cast this charm! He slowly, carefully opened his eyes again, focusing on the charm, he had to keep the charm going, but he had done it! He was standing underwater and breathing air.

All around Jett water rushed in, filling the room. How the headmistress had made her spell work so quickly and efficiently awed Jett. This was the first time he had seen her perform any spell above making her chalk move and he was indeed impressed. It was no wonder she was headmistress.

Quickly Jett tried to focus once again on the bubble head charm. His thoughts, however, were split between the charm and the worry that his clothes and hair would get wet. It would take forever to style his hair into perfection once this was over, and he simply did not have the time before his next class. With his attention divided the charm was not as well done as his first attempt. The bubble appeared again but this time it covered three or four inches past his skin and hair.

Although her heart was racing, Ella was able to create the spell, though in her panic she was much less precise with her bubble, now having it cover her entire face, ear to ear. She was relieved that she could breath, and felt as though a soothing calm had rushed over her body. Ella felt chilled, and her eyes now wandered the room.

Fan, on the other hand, was not so lucky. Or seemingly so. She had been completely incapable to casting a spell in the heat of the moment, panicking and displaying very strong emotions. She couldn't do it anymore, and she'd have to breath. When she did, take a gulping breath from 'underwater' that is, she actually felt, well, air. It turned out that Headmistress Naer hadn't brought water into the room at all, just the illusion of it. Fan just felt really confused.

"For the most part, you've all done very well. And no, it's not real water, I'm not that cruel."

Eirina smiled and stopped the illusion, allowing for the students to get rid of their charms. Looking at the clock, class was almost over.

"Your chapter homework is listed in the book, outline the chapter and answer the questions. You only have a few minutes, but it shouldn't take you long. Again, if you'd like to check out the book, please come and see me, as well as if you have any questions. Otherwise, class is dismissed."
