He only had two N.E.W.T.s to take: Transfigurations, and History of Magic. Given his talents of course, Dein was here studying history, not spell-work. He had three books open, one was his textbook, another was specifically for the Goblin Rebellions, and then the last was a book focused on the history of the Ministry. The last one interested him most, but the Goblin wars were the most forgettable. He was taking only two tests, and he wanted a good score.

The room was surprisingly empty despite the school nearing its end. He wasn't the only one taking the exams after all, but it seemed the students preferred other environments for their studies, or didn't study at all. He didn't blame them. The furnishings in the room were ancient and unappealing as shit.

Then again, it was empty. That much was enough for a favorable environment. He preferred to remain undisturbed.

Alexander who usually did his grading in either his office down in the dungeons or in the teachers’ lounge near the Great Hall, found himself elsewhere with a stack of 1st-4th and 6th year written exams. His office seemed to cramp, to confine because he spent most of his days hunch over smoldering cauldrons testing every single idea and combination of ideas from his ever shrinking idea pool. The Great Hall Teachers’ lounge on the other hand was occupied by a horde of nifflers, which wouldn’t surprise me if Theodora had a hand in.

Now he was heading to the only place where he was certain few people occupied at the moment. With a heavy hand, because his hands were full of exams to grade, he pushed the door opened, and walked right in. As he expected there was only one student, but not the student he was expecting. “Good afternoon, Mr. Edrins,” Alexander said making his presence known as he approached the only other open table beside Dein’s. The others had cracks or books piled on top, making it barely any space to spread out one’s things.

Even though Alexander was not expecting Dein to be here studying, he wasn’t off put by him either. Months passed, he would have goateed Dein to anger as would Dein to Luke, but now, at least on Alexander’s part, felt like they were on neutral ground. No superiority complex over one another. How this came about, Alexander hardly knows. He could just chalk it up to their fierce hatred just fizzled out into a mild dislike.

If Dein still had any negative inclinations towards Alexander, he was too busy to show it. In fact, he actually managed a greeting, "Hello, Professor Brown," to ensure that Alexander had no reason to counter anything he might have thought Dein would say.

He scratched down some notes before turning to another page, about Merpeople. The only conflict between them and wizards appeared to be in the 1700's when 'mermaids' were hunted by magic and non-magic people. Back then however, wizards had yet to acknowledge the intellgience level Merpeople had.

It seemed pointless, looking over these details, but since he had yet to know which topics the exam woulds cover, he had to review a little bit of everything. He was quiet, in thought and aloud, and perhaps with Alexander there, he sat up straighter. He gave the potions professor no signs that he was bored, or distracted. Not even whether he enjoyed what he studied or not.

Alexander took the first five minutes at his table spreading and organizing his examination papers. Each year had their own stake, and it was a simple spell, which he learned from one of his faculty peers to collate them into alphabetical order. As the examination papers reshuffled themselves like a deck of cards, Alexander turn to the table beside him reading the large textbooks Dein was studying for, for his final N.E.W.T.s.

Trying to approach this delicately, but failing to come up with better alternatives, Alexander stated bluntly, “I saw Thursday that you forgo Potions N.E.W.T.s. Why is that?”

"It's not exactly my focus, Professor." Dein replied absentmindedly as he scratched down several more notes. Dein wouldn't deny that the subject caught his interest, but based on what classes had been like, with the good Professor, Dein decided it was a waste of his time. Even if he signed up for it, there was much more to study and practice than he had time for. He specifically chose what he could thought he could accomplish. He knew he had the capability to learn potion brewing, but not within this short amount of time.
