Mythical Encounter{Sebastian}

After much thought Claudia decided on some much needed reading. She had spent most of her time in her room and wanted a change of scenery and what better place but the library. Her footsteps echoed as she entered the room breaking the once silent room. Without looking around she headed directly to the section she visited often;the reference section. She grabbed an assortment of different books that she had yet to read and carried them over to a nearby table. Looking around to make sure no one was looking she made her way over to the legal section. She knew barely anyone visited this section and she always liked reading the books on magical law though she would never tell anyone. With a veela book tucked under her arm she flipped through a thick book on her way back to her seat.

It was quiet in the library. Sebastian liked that. Not that it wasn't quiet elsewhere, like his dormitory, but that was a place for sleeping, and he knew if he laid in bed while trying to study he was likely to drift off. He did not need that. All his brain power was required to finish this charms assignment, and he going to get it done today if it was the last thing he did. There was no other option, really. It was due tomorrow.

After a while he noticed movement around him and looked up from his scroll to see another student had entered the section he was currently sitting in. His eyes followed her around as she picked a stack of books from various shelves, and finally took a seat nearby. He knew her. That was Claudia; she was in a few of his classes. Plus, she was a Gryffindor, like his brother Milo. Had they talked before? Surely a few times now and again. They had been in the same school for five years already – there was not many people in his year whom he had not interacted with at least once or twice.

Catching her eye, he smiled and gave a small wave. “Hi,” he called across the row of tables. Maybe she had finished her charm assignment already. She probably had. Most people probably had. “You have a lot of books there.” It was an observation, nothing more, but Seb often started conversations in such ways. And ended them.

Flipping through a couple more pages Claudia glanced up from her book and noticed a boy sitting a few tables away. He wasn't someone she knew by name but she had seen him around the castle and knew that he was in her year. She saw him smile and wave followed by a hello and found it only polite to say hello back. His comment about her books made her blush slightly as she looked at the pile of books set out in front of her.

"There are so many good books it's hard to choose just one." She awkwardly laughed and adverted her eyes back to her book.

Usually she was one for conversation but she barely knew this boy and didn't know whether he wanted to talk or was just putting forth a nice gesture.

Seb looked around the tall rows of book that lined the walls and formed walkways through the large room. Every book had a place where it belonged, and each was lovingly set into it's home by those that tended the library. It was comforting to sit there and gaze about, knowing that the structure and organization gave the place a certain safety. It was a place where he knew the rules. That was one of the reason he liked it here. It wasn't because he enjoyed reading for pleasure, exactly; he just liked the feel of order.

His eyes turned again to the girl sitting nearby. Why had she blushed when he spoke to her? Was there something improper about the books she had? Or maybe it was wrong for him to make a comment about them. Seb didn't understand.

“Are you you going to read all of those?” Claudia had gone back to reading, though Seb continued on, curious. He might be bothering her. He probably was, but he couldn't resist. From what he could see of the books on her table they were all different subjects. Was there a trend to them, that only she knew? Or was it a random pile she chose for no reason? He had to know.

Claudia flipped through more pages intrigued by the knowledge held within but all too soon she heard the boys voice pipe in. She looked over in his direction and smiled a little.

"Yes, I plan on getting through most of them." She was slightly confused why it mattered to him whether she read all of them or not. She flipped through the rest of the book not really paying attention to the sections she already knew about and closed the book. She had quite a few books left and she was determined to read all of them.

She got up from her seat and went to return the book where she had gotten it from.

Wow, Seb thought as the girl scanned through her book after answering his question. She must really love to read, or be really into her studies. Some times he wished he was like that; it was hard for him to wrap his head around anything besides potions and plants, and his dismal marks in other subjects proved it. He did his best, though, even if his best right now was sitting in the library avoiding his school work.

When Claudia sat back down he managed to catch her eye again and grinned across the distance. He was already procrastinating, so he might as well continue the conversation.“I'm Sebastian. I think we are in some of the same classes. Uh...did you do the charms paper yet?”

Claudia looked back up from her book. Very delicately she turned the page down but not so much as to bend it too badly. She decided that this conversation wasn't going to leave much time to read so she would just have to check out a couple to take to her room.

"I'm Claudia It nice to formally meet you. I believe I did finish the charms paper. I usually do it as soon as I can to be able to have room for other things, like reading. Have you not finished yours?"

Although she was always quick to finish her work she knew others did not do the same thing. She hoped he didn't think she would scold him or judge him by asking like many in the past thought.

Sebastian nodded as Claudia introduced herself. It seemed another case of him knowing more about someone than they did about him. He knew her name already, and what classes they had together; Seb tended to watch others instead of listening to the professor, and names and small details lodged in his memory better than the dry topics some classes were full of. He liked to try to understand the people around him, though it was an act he  found as difficult as his charms homework.

“Wow. You must get really good marks.” If Claudia did her work right away, that must mean she enjoyed doing it, and probably did it well. Right? Why wasn't she in Ravenclaw? Sebastian took a moment to stare at the paper in front of him, digesting what she had said, and trying to piece it all together. It took him a while to realize she had even asked him a question back.

“I'm finishing mine now. Or, I guess I'm not. I'm kind of just staring at it, aren't I?” He chuckled and gave her a bashful look, hoping that she wouldn't assume he didn't care about his school work. She probably wouldn't like him if he was one of those kids who didn't care, because it was obvious she did.

Claudia just smiled at Sebastian. She was also one to get distracted from doing work but she never told anyone that. She glanced over at the paper sitting in front of him.

"I could help you if you want, i mean im not very good at it but if you'd like i can try." She was not one to explain things to other, but he seemed nice enough and he looked like he was struggling. She placed her bag onto the table to easily access her bag in case he needed any of her supplies.
