| The excitement of the Great Hall faded behind Adalrik as he made his way farther into the castle. He couldn't stand the many eyes looking towards him, trying to figure out what kind of champion he would be. They would never get it right, anyway. Their judging eyes only made Adalrik's temper boil and bubble. He had to get out of there before he lost control.
The quiet and breezy corridors were more to his liking. He did have a purpose to his wanderings, though. He was on the look out for Erika. The banal idea of the Yule Ball weighed heavily on his mind and he wanted to get it over and done with as soon as possible. If he had to have a date the only person he could stand going with would be Erika. She may be obnoxious, rude, petty, and mean spirited, but she was his friend. Sometimes.
He stopped at a window over looking the grounds. Night had fallen and the stars were twinkling far above. A rare smiled crossed Adalrik's face as his thoughts drifted to Erika and how she would look in a dress. Realizing his drifting mind, he shook his head, trying to clear the silly image away.

| “At least you feel better now, yes?” Erika curled a finger of her free hand around a stray strand of her hair; with the other, she clung to Miron as they walked the hall together. After Adalrik had been chosen as the Durmstrang representative and Miron had gone off, she followed to help her friend, ah, calm down. Working him up over another thing certainly helped him forget the fact the Goblet had not spit out his name (and her, that it was not hers); and all she had to involve was herself and a somewhat tight, but otherwise empty, broom closet.
They had no direction in mind really, least Erika thought so, and the corridor they made a turn for seemed to go on and on. She had no idea how big the castle was, nor a way to go around it without help, but it wasn’t a care she wanted to entertain. So long as they ended up somewhere, it was fine. Perhaps it were the Fates then, that steered her and Miron towards Adalrik.
“Look who it is. Can you believe it?” Erika clicked her tongue as she pulled Miron to a stop in front of their friend, oh, she was certainly regretting her choice of words from earlier. "Feel good about yourself, do you?" Adalrik as their champion, well, she didn't mind being stripped of glory, she was plenty popular as it was. But the money could have so easily been hers, and she free from her life behind the scenes. Her grip on Miron tightened, and she gave a toss of her hair to cover the purple bruise on her neck, one that Miron had left earlier.

| His response to here was a quiet chuckle. It was quite... thoughtful of Erika, to come to comfort him in his, well, hour of need? He'd been the angriest he'd ever been after the Goblet chose the Champions. Not just about Adalrik, one of the few he considered a friend, but also Vincent, his sniveling younger cousin, who had a chance at glory while Miron was left in the dust.
Fortunately, Erika shared his feelings among, well, other things, and the rage swelling inside of him had simmered to a bitter flame. He was even elated, one could say. So what Vincent might finally prove to be better than him? Miron was the real man, and tonight hadn't been the first time for him to have proven it either. Mentioning that to Erika, though she could probably guess, wasn't a good idea- never was with women.
As they approached Adalrik, his smile dropped, replaced with an initial indifference for his friend. Then a smirk grew on his face as Erika most obviously led the conversation down Miron's favorite road; jealously. "Oh hey man, just got back from your after party," he paused to put his arm around Erika just a tad bit lower than her waist, and gave a satisfied smirk, "sorry we forgot to invite you."

| Footfalls and muffled laughter tore Adalrik out of his daze and refocused his attention. During his recent wanderings of the castle he had not come across anyone and was starting to be comfortable in the deserted maze of corridors. He turned his frosty stare towards the source of the noise, ready to startle away any little brats that may be roaming the hall.
What his eyes found, though, made bile rise in the back of his throat. There was his target of the evening comfortably ensconced in the ogre like arms of Miron. Her blonde hair cascaded about her shoulders only partially hiding the vivid purple marks dotting her ivory skin. Adarlik watched as Miron squeezed Erika tighter to his body, his hand moving farther and farther down the small of her back. They appeared flush, a tad out of breath. The tell tale signs of a rushed private excursion were blatantly obvious to Adalrik's eyes. A strand of hair out of place, a missed button on a shirt. He knew exactly what his two friends had been up to.
The words that came out of the two students mouths were a poison to Adalrik. He could feel them working their way through his system. They rushed through every vein, sparked every nerve, and come thundering into his brain. His fists tightened at his sides as he grit his teeth.
“I'm feeling better than you. Or do you enjoy being Miron's little slut? I can't imagine it's very...pleasurable.”
Adalrik's words were laced with anger but also a silent plea to Erika. She deserved much better than whatever Miron was doing to her and he would tell her, soon. Right after he humiliated Miron a bit more. He didn't even respond to his taunting. It was juvenile and didn't warrant any attention.

| Her eyes focused sharply on Adalrik, but she dared not let the taunting smile escape her lips. It wasn't the first she'd been called a slut, certainly, but it was a first hearing it come from Adalrik. He'd have known some of the truth and so his words stung more than Erika would have cared to admit.
“Well that can’t be correct,” she shook her head and the golden locks played over her back. “Miron can be very pleasing when he wants to be. He does have the proper,” another click of her tongue. “Equipment.” Never mind that in truth Erika knew very little about it, compared to Miron; oh there had been boys before him, but none had come quite as far with her. There was a time that he made her feel special, but she can’t have been interesting, with his level of experience. She had a thought that he was simply humouring her when she did come to him, if needing only to be held in his stupid ogre-like arms.
Sometimes, it felt like Miron was all she had. It was safe. It didn’t involve feelings, other than friends who sometimes took care of one another. He didn’t scare her like Adalrik did; Adalrik who could hold her without touch, just by looking into her eyes, and fiddle with the lock that kept all her secrets. She had to make herself hate him, in order to escape him. And yet she loved how upset he sometimes looked, just to see her with someone else. And she wanted to run to him, to let him take her away from a life she had outside of Durmstrang. Whatever he or she might have been feeling, however, was impossible. It would fade, and once it did, Erika would be glad that she did not get involved with it.

| Miron never enjoyed it when he wasn't the main attraction, and right now, he may as well have been Erika's dog. He shrugged it off as best he could, however much it seemed like there were two people here instead of three. He pulled his arm away from her- he'd served his purpose, Erika was likely to have thought. Miron may have been a bit slow on the uptake, but he did know more than he was given credit for.
He also knew how to handle the situation, despite the amount of offense he'd taken. With a big smirk, he said, "Well, I believe my job is done, I'll see you two at the Ball," and before he departed, he gave a smack to Erika's rear before walking off, without looking back. He had a feeling Adalrik would be as equally pissed as Erika, so he was content. Now he just had to plan out what he would do for the Yule Ball.

| Inside Adalrik was waging a war over the urge to run after Miron and throw him into the nearest wall until blood dripped down his square jaw and rushing over to enfold Erika in his arms. That was a stupid thought, though, and Adarlik would never let his body enact it. While her words had scathed him he knew somewhere in her was a soft spot locked away from all. How similar they were, at times. Instead of letting his frustration out he stepped closer to Erika.
“Miron isn't going to make you feel better about yourself,” Adalrik growled into her ear as he stopped beside her. “You don't need him.”
Miron was a pig to Adalrik. While he couldn't care less how he treated other girls the way he casually tossed Erika aside was unforgivable. If he were the one in Miron's place Erika would never be left with such marks on her flawless skin nor suffer the humiliation of being cast aside. He would show her how she ought to be treated.
“Come to the ball with me.” It was not a question. Adarlik's blue eyes bore into Ericka's, unwavering.

| She had jumped slightly, surprised at the sudden impact. Miron wasn’t known to have handled her gently before, but being smacked like that did feel rather unpleasant. Erika’s lips pressed into a line and she cast an evil eye over Miron’s retreating figure, a view that was soon blocked by Adalrik’s much bigger form. She did always feel small when standing next to him, what with his height and muscle that Erika’s shorter, gentler frame surely lacked.
“Do you think so?” she tried dismissing Adalrik’s truth. “Perhaps he already has.” It was odd how sometimes her own words seemed to hurt her more than the person they were aimed at. Even if she was tricking herself into believing them, they’d come back to haunt her. Would he still want her then? When all the nightmares showed clear on her skin?
His eyes caught her in place, like invisible chains. “Okay,” she breathed, a bit dazed by the intensity with which he so demanded that she come with him. She was so close to danger zone she could taste it, and so she forced herself to look away, to recover. She could act as his friend again, she could do that. “I’d be a poor friend if I let our champion go alone, wouldn’t I?”
