Characteristics:PERSONALITY: Nell is often described to hold an introverted persona, being seen to be quite anti-social, however, that is not the case. Nell is able to socialize with others with ease and enjoy it as well but, she tends to remove herself from society to simply think. She has a rather bittersweet relationship with people but, sometimes she enjoys the company of others too. She enjoys one-on-one conversations the best, and will stop and take a moment to talk to someone, engaging into a casual conversation. She believes that to improve and shape her beliefs and thoughts, it’s important to learn the standings of others as well. She values thought as one values money. She believes that thinking is the best way to prepare and help her mentally. Battling her misanthropic views, she has philanthropic views on society so thinking is the best way to resolve these contradicting thoughts. Whether this is a positive or negative quality will be answered through perspective.
The traits in her that are found to be most desirable in Slytherin are her cleverness and how ambitious she can be. Nell is often described to be a perfectionist, being hesitant when acting to prevent recklessness. You will notice that she is very careful with her choice of words and thinks thoroughly about her choice of spells when dueling. Because of how sharp she is, she is able to think quite quickly and efficiently, having little to no regret in her decisions.
Although her personality allows her to succeed, it also may be her downfall as well. Her introverted thoughts tend to cause her slight depression at times, and may affect her performance. Since she is a “perfectionist”, she often feels that she has the right to judge Muggles and occasionally Muggle-borns. She feels that they are the most “imperfect” out of all of us. When things aren’t done “perfectly” she tends to stress herself and become a work-a-holic. Nell also has a difficult time opening to up to people. Because of this, she often acts very proper due to the fact that she is nervous. She feels that even her first impressions must be perfect as well. She will often give an honorific to someone if there isn’t enough intimacy between them.
As for her more general expression, she holds a very reserved countenance. She is very calm when speaking and her smiles are faint and dull. She does not enjoy showing excessive emotions especially anger for she finds it to be distasteful. She does not like altering or influencing the views and decisions of others, so she is often the listener in a conversation
LIKES: If there’s anything that Nell enjoys, it would be Defense Against the Dark Arts. Seeing that this is her specialty, she finds great joy in that class. Next would be anything music related. Because she often feels unsteady and unsure of her thoughts and emotions, she enjoys listening and playing music to resolve them, particularly the organ. She finds that it has a rich and medieval taste to it and she is deeply attracted to its timbre. Although she acts proper and she respects Western table manners, she has a strange love for fast foods; her favorite being hamburgers. Nell is also very fond of Quidditch as well. She loves watching them and often, she dreams of being on a team as well. She finds something charming and graceful about the sport.
DISLIKES: Nell, as stated before, has a small prejudice towards Muggles and occasionally muggle-borns. One might say it is because she is of Slytherin, but there are layers of reasons on top of that. She also has a bias against Gryffindor students. Seeing that they are often reckless and their meaningless heroic acts are found to be illogical to her. This could possibly be because she is often jealous of Gryffindor.
FEARS: Imperfections, especially within herself. She strongly dislikes mirrors because that’s when she becomes most self-conscious about herself.
- Spoiler:
She is also afraid of meeting her younger brother
HISTORY:Nell was born on October 26th XXXX, and was the first daughter of Arthur and Abigail Kairis. As a child, Nell was often called bright and clever. Her family was very proud of her, and she was proud of her family. Her father was of level 2 in the Ministry of Magic and her mother, level 3 so they held some importance in the wizard world. In her eyes, her family was “perfect” and she felt that she had to be as well. At the age of six, that perfection was broken. Nell had noticed that her mother and father were growing quite distant from each other. She would often ask about it, but they blamed it on their work for keeping them busy. In truth, her mother was having an affair with a Muggle man. Nell had noticed letters and pictures of and from this man in her mother’s drawer. After being caught, Nell was going to be physically punished by her mother’s ill-tamed emotions, however, she was able to find some courage to dodge her mother instead of take the hit. After her father had received news of this from his house elf, he decided to defend Nell and lecture his wife. This had negatively affected Abigail and shortly after, she eloped with the Muggle-man and had gotten pregnant.
This had caused a small stir in the ministry and had caused her father to stress. Because of this muggle man, the perfection that their family had was broken. This was what created her strong dislike towards muggles and people associated with muggles. A few months later, they've received news from a source about Nell’s new half-brother, however the birth had cost her mother's life. Reasons are still unknown today. The muggle father begged someone to help take care of his son, however, Arthur Kairis was convinced that suicide was the best solution for him. He could not bare see the son of his dead ex-wife, the stress from the ministry or the new husband. With no parents or guardians available, Nell was sent to an orphanage. She couldn't understand why her both her parents had died at the time. She never met her half-blood brother or his muggle father, she had no desire to. If there was one thing she wanted, it was to understand why the world is so
imperfect.
Hogwarts 1-3:After receiving the letter from Hogwarts, Nell considered it a chance to start a new life. Upon entering, and being sorted, there was a bit of a dilemma. There were two houses in mind for her and both on the opposite side of the spectrum; Gryffindor and Slytherin. She was able to get sorted into Gryffindor, but begged the Sorting Hat to put her in Slytherin instead. Her first three years have been fairly plain. She was especially good at Defense against the Dark Arts. Her weakest subject was Herbology.
- Spoiler:
The Sorting Hat had already suggested that her heart belonged in Gryffindor however, due to her past experiences; she viewed Gryffindor to be inappropriate for her. She possessed both qualities favorable for both however, deep down she is a Gryffindor wearing a Slytherin robe.
Arthur Kairis attended Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry as well, and interestingly enough, was sorted into Gryffindor. Although Nell acts very different from him, he being kind, open-minded and accepting, they both have brave hearts although Nell denies it. She finds her father’s tenderness to be partially why the perfection in her family was broken. She finds it to be a trait of weakness and her mother was able to take advantage of it.
Another possible reason is because she feels unworthy for Gryffindor.
